Mexican League Super Classic weekend

So this Sunday Chivas takes on their biggest rival the Aguilas de America. Last year talk was about this match being watered down. It seems now that more focus than ever is on it. Chivas is on a high this year. America has had their current head coach for more than a week. Ok, that’s not fair. America has done fairly well, considering they have lost their best player. The Aguilas still seem confident and trust in their ability to win. Chucho Ramirez has stated that he wants his team to win for the fans. It has been a turbulent season for the fans, with Cabañas getting hurt, then Ochoa failing, as well as Pavel not getting called to the NT.

Alert! Alert! Chicharito is hurt! Cheesy or not that rhymed and is a truth that may hurt Chivas. In a practice session Javier “el chicharito” Hernandez got hurt and may miss the Classic. We will have to wait and see. I think he will be ok, and end up playing. Worst scenario would be he come in as a substitution.

Even without Chicharito, I think that Chivas takes this match. It will be an interesting duel of goalkeepers as well. Hopefully we get a good ref’d game, and maybe a little bit of physical tension and competition. Not a fight or anything but some passion and determination to win. We need some pride for the Jersey and battle out on the field for their team and colors.

World Cup countdown: 50 days to go‎

1 - Brazil's Pele is the only player to win three World Cups: in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

2 - Four players have recorded two hat tricks at the World Cup: Hungary's Sandor Kocsis (both in 1954), France's Just Fontaine (1958), West Germany's Gerd Muller (1970) and Gabriel Batistuta (one in 1994 and one in 1998).

3 - Russia's Oleg Salenko scored a tournament-record five goals in one game during a 6-1 win over Cameroon at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

4 - Paolo Rossi was the top scorer at the 1982 World Cup in Spain with six goals, leading Italy to its third title.

5 - The World Cup trophy went missing for a week when it was stolen prior to the 1966 World Cup in England. A dog named Pickles, being taken out for a walk by his owner in South London, discovered the trophy wrapped in some newspapers at the bottom of some bushes a week after it was taken.

6 - There were 10 minutes left in extra time of the 2006 World Cup final when France's Zinedine Zidane head-butted Italian defender Marco Materazzi.

7 - Turkey's Hakan Sukur scored 11 seconds into the third-place game against South Korea in 2002, the quickest goal in World Cup history.

8 - Austria and Switzerland teamed up for the highest-scoring game in World Cup history in 1954 when they combined for 12 goals. Austria won 7-5.

9 - Thirteen teams that participated in the first World Cup in 1930 in Uruguay.

10 -Brazil's Ronaldo holds the record for most career World Cup goals with 15.

11 - Russian referee Valentin Ivanov brandished 16 yellow cards (tying a tournament record) in a second-round match at the 2006 World Cup in Germany between Portugal and the Netherlands.

12 -Brazil's Pele was 17 years old when he became the youngest player ever to score at the World Cup, in 1958 in Sweden.

Argentine coach Ricardo Lavolpe

After losing the final match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2007 1-2 against the United States, Mexico successfully rebounded with a remarkable first-round participation at CONMEBOL Copa America 2007. Beginning by beating the recent champions Brazil 2-0 (goals from: Nery Castillo 23' and Ramón Morales 28') in their first match, they then went on to defeat Ecuador 2-1 (goals from: Nery Castillo 21' and Omar Bravo 79'). For their final match they tied 0-0 with Chile. With those results Mexico came first in Group B with seven points.

In the quarterfinals, Mexico beat Paraguay 6-0 but lost in the semi-finals 3-0 to Argentina. With this defeat, Mexico was left to fight for third place against Uruguay, winning 3-1 and claiming the bronze trophy.

In July 2009 Mexico won their fifth Gold Cup, and eighth CONCACAF Championship overall, after beating the United States 5–0 in the final at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

On October 10, 2009 Mexico qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup after defeating El Salvador 4-1 in Estadio Azteca.

Michel's performance to block all America attempts

Michel came up and blocked all America attempts. I will say that these shots on goal came at Michel around head height, where he could deflect with his already reaised hands. On the other hand the shot on Memo Ochoa was near and with the foot close to the ground. Memo’s reaction time was useless to block Omar Arellano’s shot, without the luck of being in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately for Memo, he was not at the right place at the right time. He left his post open. This is a basic rule for keepers. Don’t get beat on the post side. It would have been much easier for Omar to shoot and make it if Memo would have left his right side open instead of his left/post. On his right side, the shot may have gone wide, defenders would have blocked it, or Omar would have been forced to use “3 toes” or his left foot to curve the ball in the far post. Which would have been significantly harder than going near post, like he did. Bad on Memo.

Chivas deserved the win and continues on to a great season. The sad thing is, that with players going to NT world cup preparation, their season may come to a disappointing finish.

Guillermo Ochoa

Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magaña (born July 13, 1985 in Guadalajara, Jalisco), nicknamed "Memo", is a Mexican football goalkeeper who currently plays for America in the Primera División de México.

At the age of 20 Guillermo Ochoa was called up by Mexico's former manager Ricardo LaVolpe for the 2006 FIFA World Cup as the third choice goalkeeper. After the World Cup, newly appointed manager Hugo Sánchez called Ochoa into the national side as a deputy to Mexico's then-number one, Oswaldo Sánchez. In addition to the World Cup, Ochoa has participated in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2007 Copa America. He was voted the 11th best goalie in the world in 2008. He made his 2010 World Cup qualification debut on 28 March 2009 against Costa Rica. Ochoa kept a clean sheet as Mexico won the match 2-0 with goals from Omar Bravo and Pavel Pardo. Another clean sheet soon followed against Guadalupe.
